Patty Cake Quilt: A Colorful Finish
This Patty Cake quilt was such a fun one to make! The pattern is Patty Cake by Eleanor Burns of Quilt in a Day, and I love how the simple design lets all of those colorful fabrics do the work. It’s one of those quilts that feels happy the minute you look at it.
A Quilt Made for Giving
My husband asked me to make this quilt as a gift for the young daughter of someone he knew. I started with a layer cake full of bright, happy colors and playful prints, and the Patty Cake pattern by Eleanor Burns seemed like a perfect fit.
I don’t remember the name of the fabric collection anymore — one of the reasons I’m starting The Quilty Queue! I’m hoping this blog will become a place to keep track of the fabrics, patterns, quilting designs, and little stories behind the quilts I make.
The Quilting
I quilted this one with a flowing floral design that adds lots of texture across both the pieced center and the wide pink border. I don’t remember the name of the pantograph, but I love the soft movement it gives the quilt without taking attention away from all those colorful fabrics.
The back is almost as cheerful as the front. I used a playful coordinating print and added a wide strip of the pink fabric down the center. It’s always fun when the back of the quilt has a little personality of its own.

Another One Off the Queue
This was such a cheerful quilt to make, and I especially love knowing it was made to be given away. Bright fabrics, a simple pattern, and lots of texture from the quilting made this one a fun finish from beginning to end.
And even though I can’t remember every detail about it now, that’s part of the reason The Quilty Queue exists - so the next time I finish a quilt, I’ll have its story tucked away here.
